It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the recent passing of our most beloved Mom, Nana and Great-Nana.
She was predeceased by her parents Myrtle & Eugene Dilger, her husband of 65 years, George Henry (Tim), and her daughter-in-law, Lynne. She leaves behind 3 sons; George, James & Robert (Robyn).,6 grandchildren; Gabriel (Lauren), Emma, George, Jackie, Brooke (John), Becky (Joe) and 7 great grandchildren.
Born in Winnipeg in 1922, Vivian and her parents moved to Vancouver in 1928. She spent her childhood on the beaches near Point Grey where she attended Lord Byng Secondary School and made many life-long friends. After high school, Vivian attended UBC where she earned a degree in Zoology.
In 1944, Vivian married Tim in Hamilton, Ontario and they returned to Vancouver postwar.
In 1950, they moved to the North Shore where they raised their 3 sons. Summers were spent at Alta Lake until the early 1970s when they took on the challenge of building a beautiful log home on Bowron Lake. Family and friends were always welcome to visit for great fishing, canoeing, games of crib, and to enjoy Vivian's gracious hospitality and good cooking. Spending summers at Bowron and the rest of the year in West Vancouver made for the perfect balance of city and the nature that Vivian cherished.
Vivian was an active member in the University Women's Club, the West Van Senior's Centre, a faithful supporter of the VSO, a talented quilter, knitter and piano player, an avid bird watcher and always a thoughtful and elegant hostess. Dogs were always a part of the family fabric and Vivian had a very special bond with her own dogs and any that might visit her. Family was most important to Vivian and she was always supportive without intruding. She also loved and admired the late Queen Elizabeth. Nana made certain that all of her grandchildren were equipped with the most proper of table manners, should they ever have a meal with Her Majesty.
Although 100 years of life is gift, we would all have wished for more time for her, so she could have continued to inspire us to be our best.
Special thanks go out to the staff at Creekstone Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Christopher's Anglican Church in West Vancouver on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
