Terry was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on July 23, 1942. He moved with his three brothers and parents to Vernon, BC, and then to Vancouver. For over 45 years, Terry and Fran, his wife, have lived in North Vancouver, a place where they have experienced a strong sense of community.
Anyone who met Terry instantly loved him. He had a warm, infectious smile, liked to laugh, and was a wonderful host. Terry was a kind and gentle person with strong values and lots of love to give.
During his earlier years, he attended Britannia and John Oliver High Schools. He bought and restored his first car, a 1949 Ford, when he was only 17.
Terry married young and had three wonderful children, Natalee, and then twins, Nicki and Kimberly, who passed away a few months before her fourth birthday. Terry married again in 1980 to Fran Halpert – his wife of 43 years. As Fran would tell it, she was the love of his life.
As an accountant and a manager, Terry spent most of his career in the forest industry. Upon retirement, he and Fran travelled to many places including Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, and Toronto to visit Fran’s family, as well as Italy and France, two of his favourite places.
Terry and Fran enjoyed an active social life, including many wonderful evenings with long-time friends or neighbours at the Winchester. They also loved to dance and go out for dinner to their favourite restaurants.
For most of his life, Terry enjoyed ten-pin bowling and golf, and later, played duplicate bridge at Parkgate Recreation Centre. He was also a sports enthusiast and loved watching hockey and football games. For many years, he attended Elder College where he became an active member.
His greatest pride was in his two surviving daughters, Natalee and Nicki, who will miss him dearly. He was a truly loving father and his daughters will cherish many wonderful memories of him.
Terry passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the High-Acuity Unit at Lions Gate Hospital. The family is grateful to all the staff in ICU and HAU who looked after him so well.
Terry will always be remembered by his loving wife, Fran Halpert, daughters Natalee (Michel) and Nicki (Dario). He is also survived by his brother Bud (Dina), niece Linda (Peter), nephews Rob (Shelley) and Bruce (Elaine), and grand-nieces/nephews Catherine, Jesse, Brynn and Payton. Terry will also be remembered fondly by his brother-in-law and wife Arthur and Linda Halpert, and nephews Cory (Rachel) and David, all from Toronto. Terry was predeceased by his parents Frances and Dimitri, and by his siblings Dan and Edward.
In Terry’s memory, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
A private celebration of life will be held for family and friends in the spring of 2024.
