1924 - 2021
It is with the gratitude of him having lived a joyous
96 years, that we announce the passing of Sydney
Roy Nash, on March 25, 2021. He will be missed!
Sydney was born in his family home, Mount
Pleasant, in Black River, Jamaica, on October 12,
1924. At the age of 19, he joined the RAF and was
stationed in Britain during WW II. After returning to
Jamaica, he followed Dorothy and her family to
Canada, and they were married in Victoria. They
enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her passing, in
2006. Three sons were born while Syd and Dorothy
lived in the idyllic setting of James Island, B.C.
Sydney was blessed with another wonderful
marriage to Lee Clippingdale, in 2008, and continued
to live in the loving embrace of their many friends
and family in North Vancouver.
Survived by his wife, Lee; sons, David and Michael;
daughters-in-law; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren;
many adoring nieces and nephews; and
by Lee’s loving children and grandchildren. Predeceased
by Dorothy, and by their beautiful son, Jeffery.
Syd had a great passion for giving back, which he
did primarily through his long association with the
North Shore Optimist Club. It’s Creed seems to
have been written to describe him, rather than to
guide him.
Music was central to Syd’s life. There will be many
happy memories of him entertaining friends and
family, singing and playing his guitar. Jamaica
Farewell, anyone? He cherished his long membership
and many friendships in The Keynotes Choir of
West Vancouver.
Sport was also an important part of Syd’s life. He
loved to play golf, tennis, and badminton - all of
which he did, well into his nineties!
But it was the friendships in all of these associations
that mattered most to Syd. The same was true
throughout his work life.
Syd loved and was loved by people of every age.
His passion for life will live on in so many hearts.
Syd died in peace and grace at the North Shore
Hospice, where thankfully, family and friends had
the opportunity to visit.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
donations be made in Syd’s name to that wonderful
facility. Online donations can be made to the North
Shore Hospice through the Lions Gate Hospital
Foundation website.
