Mother, Sailor, Realtor, Teacher, Artist, Pageant Queen, Lifeguard, Medic, Advocate, Trail Blazer
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and family matriarch, at the age of 80, at the Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver after a lengthy illness. She will be deeply missed by her children Erik (Sandra), Robin, Ryan (Carrie) and Dana (Mark), her nephew and niece Edward and Samantha, and seven grandchildren: Ethan, Antony, Jakob, Joshua, Kiran, Noah and Brodick. Daughter of the late Robert and Florence Grout. Predeceased by her brothers Clyde, Ted and Tom. She will also be mourned by her surviving siblings Nancy (Justin), Drew (Marg) and Elaine (Will) as well as numerous other relatives and lifetime friends. Our mother was a natural leader who lived a remarkable life, always seeking to make meaningful contributions to the communities in which she lived. She was an avid sailor who competed in the Victoria-Maui yacht race, skippering an all-male crew at a time when sailing was a male-dominated sport. A tireless advocate, she often worked to support and mentor others. A consummate host and entertainer, she enjoyed creating opportunities for others to gather and share friendship and good cheer. Our world will be less colourful without her. A Celebration of Life will be held later. Our family would like to thank the staff of the Berkley Care Centre for their amazing care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. Please send donations by cheque to 300-828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2, or donate online at: https://alzheimer.ca/bc/en/take-action/donate.
