Philip Cecil Love

Born in Vancouver, B.C. on March 8th, 1928 in St. Paul’s Hospital to his parents, Richard and Phyllis Love, Philip Cecil Love was a remarkable man.

Born in an era of many constraints and restrictions, Philip always found a way to negotiate the impediments and challenges of the times. A good-looking man –confident in his skin. Philip always had the last word in his good-natured way and was admired for his great sense of humor –even to the end.

Philip’s early life took him many places. Notably as a crew member on the SS Prince George at the age of 17. The ship serviced the west coast of British Columbia to Alaska. He spent time in Revelstoke with the railway before returning to the lower Mainland. Philip eventually worked his way into a job with General Electric Canada and worked for them for 26 years, retiring in 1983.

Previously, Philip met an attractive divorcee, six years his senior, at a cocktail party in 1953 and Diana became his wife soon after. A year later, Patricia, their only child, was brought into the world. Philip and Diana loved travelling and visited many parts of the world together. Philip loved boating and the ocean and owned and operated his 23-foot sailboat he kept moored at Thunderbird Marina in West Vancouver. Swimming, badminton, tennis and jogging were key focusses in his life. Both Phil and Diana were voracious readers. Philip was predeceased by his wife in 2006.

Philip will be greatly missed by his daughter, Patricia (Bruce), grandson Christopher (Robyn), granddaughter Lauren (Rindy) and his four great grandchildren, Lucas, Sophia, Carter and Olivia.

Philip died on October 30th, 2023 at Arbutus Care Centre in Vancouver, B.C. He was 95.
