Peter John Valentine Gilbert

Peter John Valentine Gilbert, 89, of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 26, 2021. Peter was born in London, England. After becoming a barrister, he emigrated with his wife and eldest two children to Canada where he expanded his family, and practiced law in Regina and Vancouver in both the public and private sector.

Peter fell in love with the Canadian Rockies, became an avid mountain climber, and for several years took his family to Banff and Lake Louise for summer vacations. He was also a skilled photographer, and captured these vacations, including his mountain escapades, on film. Most of these images were shot on transparency film, and for years they were the subject of family night slide shows.

In addition to being an expert in the law, Peter was well read in many subjects, including world history, geography, politics, literature, classical musical, art and film. His phenomenally broad knowledge base was often the raw material for the many stories with which he would regale all who knew him. Peter loved to laugh, and these stories were usually told with his trademark wit and humor.

Peter was preceded in death by his eldest son, Clifford. He is survived by his wife, Rosina, children, Frances (Turner), Valerie, and Richard (Susan), sister, Pauline, and seven grandchildren.
