Patsy passed away peacefully at the North Shore Hospice on Monday, October 7th, surrounded by the love of her family. In remembering and honoring the beautiful person she was, we choose joy, adventure and love.
Patsy was born in Duncan, BC, welcomed into the world by her mother, Edith Mary Wright (nee Squibb), while her father, Harold Lindley Wright, was away serving in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. The eldest of five, she spent her childhood in Vancouver and Burnaby, graduating from Burnaby North Secondary School and then VGH School of Nursing. Having started her career at VGH, she spent most of her working life as an Operating Room Nurse at BC Children’s Hospital, a job she absolutely loved, and where she officially retired from in 2020.
A West Coast girl at heart, Patsy’s love of the ocean started with trips on her grandfather’s boat the Leisure. Then as newlyweds, Patsy and Roger purchased their beloved Mallard, which they cruised the coast with family and friends, and later their own family. As a grandmother, she was overjoyed to be back on the water, spending summer holidays with her family on the Mizu.
Patsy equally loved the mountains. Having learnt to ski on Todd Mountain, while working as a nurse in Kamloops, her passion for the sport continued throughout her entire life, from skiing on the local mountains with her young family, to her weekly trips up to Whistler to ski with her Senior Ski Team. According to her, one of the greatest achievements of her life was getting all six of her grandchildren up the mountain on skis.
Patsy is predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister Nancy. She is survived by her children Nicole, Paula and Matthew, grandchildren Van, Vincent, Celeste, Ginger, Cormac and Flynn, son-in-law Ian, daughter-in-law America, sisters Gerry and Audrey, brother Stephen, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
In celebrating a life well lived, and a love of baking, family and friends are invited to drop by the West Vancouver Seniors’ Activity Centre (Marine Room) on Sunday, November 24th between 1 and 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the North Shore Hospice, the BC Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.
