It is with heavy hearts and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Murdoch Hardy on November 22, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Neil leaves behind his loving wife Sheila, their boys Trevor and Taylor, and granddog Rani. He is survived by Gordon, Steven, Ian (Mel) and many nieces and nephews.
Neil was born at Grace Hospital in Vancouver, B.C., and grew up in Burnaby, B.C., where he graduated from Alpha S. Secondary in 1971. He bought his 1st home with Sheila in North Vancouver in the early 80’s and remained a resident of Lynn Valley for over 40 years. He completed his Journeyman BC Trade qualification at Pacific Vocational college in 1973. Soon after, in 1976, he began working as an apprentice for Danube Electric LTD., and in 1979 he went on to earn his Journeyman Electrician Certificate at BCIT. Neil then began managing Danube Electric LTD. in 1983, a company with 12-15 electricians working under him locally, and projects in the international market. By 1992 he bought Danube Electric LTD. and remained president until his death.
The world has lost an incredibly loved, amazing man and friend. It is hard to imagine life without Neil, beloved husband, dad, brother, son, friend, electrician, business man, family man, and so much more. Neil was a kind, caring, humorous, intellectual and had a passion for the outdoors; he windsurfed, biked, hiked and skied all types and trails. Neil would chat about history, trivia, current events, movies and politics, taking interest in every person in the room, or cabin! The joy, love, light, legacy and warmth that the Challenger Inn brought to Neil, and he brought to the Challenger in the past 30 years is such a comfort at this sad time.
To honour Neil, A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at the Challenger Inn on Hollyburn Ridge.
He will live on always in our hearts.
