Mother to Darlene and James(Freda), loving grandmother to Kari, Ariel, and Dane, aunt to Simone, cousin to Hazel and Tom, with other family residing throughout South Wales, New Zealand, England, and Australia.
She is predeceased by her companion for many years, Thomas “Speedy” Grant, brother David, and half sister Jeanette.
Born in Abedare, South Wales, she grew up in various parts of the UK in her younger years.
Alone at 14 after the war ended, her first job was an Assistant at an Umbrella Shop.
In the 50’s and early 60’s she spent time travelling to Canada, Europe, and the United States, before settling in North Vancouver in 1964, where she lived the remainder of her life.
At 33 she attended Community College to get her Grade 9, 10, and 11 Education, and won a Scholarship to UBC.
After 4 years there doing a degree in Education, she graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor Of Education .
She began teaching in North Vancouver in 1972 at various schools including: Burrard View, Seymour Heights, Blueridge, and Westover. She retired in 1994 after 22 years.
She sponsored several students in Africa, and did volunteer work in both Kenya and Tanzania.
From being on her own at an early age, to a single parent that did it all, being independent was truly important to her.
All that she had was due to her own hard work and perserverance.
She did a lot of travelling in her retirement years, Barbados being one of her favourite places.
She enjoyed Quality Street chocolates, marzipan, Coronation Street, parties, friends, reggae music, crocheting, dancing, travelling, and time with her grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her smile, strength, kindness, wisdom, giving nature and fashion sense.
You will be truly missed.
A special thank you to Vancouver Coastal Health, Cedar Springs, and Berkley Care Centre for taking care of her.
A Celebration Of Life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s name to Lions Gate Acute Care Unit, Vancouver General Hospital Spinal Cord Centre, Red Cross, or charity of your choice is kindly appreciated.
