Leonard J. Hargreaves

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard John Hargreaves on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the age of 93. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a respected member of his community.

Len, as he was affectionately known, was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Joan Hargreaves. He will be deeply missed by his children: Sarita Dunne (Bruce), Beth Howe (Bill), Dan Herron (Donna), and sisters Mary and Iris. Len was a proud and loving grandfather to Falen, Paige, Christopher, Sarah, and Mark. He was also an adoring great-grandfather to Reese. Not forgetting his faithful feline companion, "Bug," who brought him joy throughout the years.

From a young age, Len possessed an incredible work ethic, which began when he held several lengthy paper routes to support his mother and siblings while his father served overseas during the war. Although tiring, these early responsibilities instilled in him a determination that would shape his future endeavors. Len later found success as a truck driver, traveling across Canada, and eventually transitioned into a thriving career as a car salesman, earning numerous top sales awards. However, his most significant accomplishment came when he established a prosperous family business that kept him active until the age of 70.

Upon retirement, Len found joy in travel and cruising to sunny destinations with his family. He also enjoyed testing his luck at the casino, and cherishing these moments with his children and grandchildren, of whom he was incredibly proud.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Sunrise Lynn Valley Home for their exceptional care and compassion during Len's time there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

Len will be forever remembered for his infectious and playful sense of humor, which brought joy and laughter to those around him. His unwavering determination for life was an inspiration to all who knew him.

As dad would wish for us, “be as good as can be expected under the circumstances, but don’t ask him what the circumstances are.”

Please join us in a celebration of life for Len at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver, BC on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow.
