Ken was an accomplished and successful musician with a career that spanned over 4 decades. He was the Principal Timpanist/Percussionist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera Orchestra and performed in dozens of Broadway and Ballet productions. He was a freelance performer and active in studio sessions and films including the Beachcombers, Irish Rovers and performed
and recorded with numerous Jazz and Rock musicians including Lena Horne, Liberace, Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra and many more.
Ken was a beloved and popular music teacher and established the U.B.C. percussion program. He also
taught at Capilano University and Vancouver Community College. He received his Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia in 1966 and went on to study privately with Jim Blackley of Vancouver and Earl Hatch of Los Angeles. He worked in clubs such as The Cave, Isy’s, Oil Can Harry’s, The Bayside Room, The Panorama Room and worked with other great local musicians such as Bob Hales,
Dave Robbins & Fraser MacPherson. Ken was passionate about music, especially Jazz and the era of the Rat Pack and enjoyed listening to music the old fashioned way…reel to reels and vintage turntables.
Ken was a deeply loyal, devoted and kind hearted man who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
We ask that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in lieu of flowers.
A celebration of his incredible life will be held in the summer of 2023.
