It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry McDiarmid on May 11, 2024, at the age of 81. He was with his wife at his home in Burnaby, B.C.
Harry was born to Daniel and Ravilla McDiarmid, and grew up in Vancouver, B.C. He had six siblings: Don, Audrie, Dale, Tiny, Helen, and Barb. He met his wife, Glenda, on a blind date in the early sixties, they hit it off and were married soon after. With their son, Frank and daughter, Jackie, the family moved around B.C. with Harry's job at Overwaitea, living in Port Coquitlam, Prince George, Christina Lake, Kelowna, Cranbrook, Campbell River, and Victoria. When Harry retired, they moved back to the Lower Mainland in 2012.
Harry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was especially proud of his two granddaughters, Allyson and Lauren, who brought him much joy. He had a great sense of humor, and always had a joke or a story to share. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports (especially the Vancouver Canucks and B.C. Lions), spending time with his family and friends, and whenever he moved into a new house, he quickly built a pond and filled it with ducks, or an aviary and filled it with birds.
Harry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenda; his daughter, Jackie Felberg (Doug); his son, Frank McDiarmid (Laureen); his granddaughters, Allyson Felberg and Lauren McDiarmid; his siblings, Audrie, Dale, and Helen; sister-in-law Vera; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Ravilla; his brother, Don; his sisters Tiny and Barb; his brother-in-law, Earl; his nephews, Darcy and Scott; and his great-niece, Kailey.
As per Harry's wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the palliative care team and the Fraser Health home support staff for their compassionate care and support, and the wonderful staff at the Derby Manor where he lived for the past 2 and a half years.
Harry will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor. He will always be in our hearts.
