With great sadness, the family of Edward (Eddy) Martin announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, April 13th, just shy of his 93rd birthday. Eddy is survived by his wife Ursula (nee Stefani), children Eric (Wendy), Steve (Arlene), Sharon (Brad) and John (Sharon). He had 7 wonderful grandchildren he adored: Spencer, Tyson, Andrew, Cody, Sarah, Jasper and Micah. Eddy is survived by his brother Johnny (Marie), sister Marge, cousin Linda, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved to spend time with at family gatherings and celebrations. He was predeceased by his brother Tookie (Eileen). Eddy was a man of many skills and in his early years was a logger, miner, diamond driller and forklift driver travelling all over northern parts of BC, Yukon and the Northwest Territories all before settling down in North Vancouver and began his career working at Pacific Great Eastern Railway (PGE)/BC Rail in 1957 as a truck driver. Eddy joined the CYO at St. Edmund’s church where he met the love of his life Ursula and they married in 1959. As they started their family and the children grew, Eddy was involved in the community as a soccer and baseball coach. Eddy retired in 1992 from BC Rail. He took on many projects around the house and in the garden, enjoyed painting in his workshop and most of all loved working with his brother Tookie at the airplane factory. Eddy also loved to spend time with his brother Johnny sharing stories and discussing politics and sports at their weekly gatherings. Our Dad loved watching the Canucks and BC Lions games and always looked forward to his Grey Cup parties with his brothers, sons, and grandchildren by his side to cheer on their team. Eddy was a wonderful father, husband, brother, uncle, papa, and friend. To know him was to love him and he will be missed by many every day. We would like to thank the loving staff and caregivers at Sunrise of Lynn Valley who took great care of Dad for 6 years. To the caregivers and nurses at Evergreen House 3 South, who got to know Dad these past 4 weeks, you made him comfortable and eased his pain when he needed it the most.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24th at 11:00 am at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church at 545 Mahon Ave, North Vancouver.
Please come and join us for a reception following the Mass at St. Catherine's church at 1058 Ridgewood drive, North Vancouver at roughly 1:00pm.
