Donna was born and raised in Oakville, a town near Victoria, BC. After she graduated from high school, she went on an incredible trans-atlantic voyage on a working shipping liner (rare for a single woman back then!), and, with her close friend, Dale, explored Europe thoroughly. Once back in Canada, she attended secretarial school along with a stint at the Banff School of Fine Arts, and then put her training to use, starting as a secretary with what was then Island Tug and Barge...and finished up her career with Det Norske Veritas, a marine assurance company, where she spent many happy years and made many friends. She volunteered regularly at the local church near the family home in North Vancouver.
Donna met her future husband at a badminton club they had both joined. And the rest was history! Donna and George married in June of 1962 and had 3 children: Melissa Lea, Bruce Scott (Suanne) and Andrew Fraser. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Rachelle, Aidan, Kyle and Nicole. She was predeceased by her brother, Scott Kerr.
Donna was a talented piano player, and enjoyed playing a social game of bridge with good friends. She loved all animals, big or small. She had a dog as a young girl but unfortunately it became clear she was highly allergic to its fur...so she moved on to birds, with a particular fondness for budgies. Still, she could not pass by a dog without giving it her love, and chatting with the owner.
Donna was an amazingly kind and compassionate person, to whom family was the most important thing in life - she will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Mom/Nanny - Dad/George is waiting for you. Until we meet again...
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 27, 2024, 1-4pm - please email Melissa at [email protected] for details.
