It is with great sadness that the family announces that David Cregeen Frost died peacefully on November 27, 2022, in Vancouver, BC. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Pamela, his children Katherine (Chris) and Michael (Laura), granddaughter Margaret, younger brother Tom (Betty) and his nephew and nieces. David was born in Ormskirk, Lancashire on March 27, 1929, and spent many halcyon holidays on the Isle of Man in his youth. In 1955, while working on his PhD at the University of Liverpool, he emigrated to Canada to take up a post in the Chemistry Department at the University of British Columbia, where he remained on faculty until his retirement in 1989. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his research in photoelectron spectroscopy, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1980.
David was a keen sportsman and at weekends through the summer could be found on cricket fields around Vancouver. He was instrumental in introducing 6-a-side cricket to British Columbia and umpired the sport at the BC Summer Games the first year it was played. Following his retirement, David took up a new passion, amateur (ham) radio. He had a particular interest in morse code and contesting, winning numerous awards. He was extremely proud to have received a QSL card from every country in the world, including the elusive one from North Korea.
David was always the life of the party, with a larger-than-life personality and a great sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Hospitalist Medicine Unit at Vancouver General Hospital for their care and compassion in his last days.
