Charmaine and I go way way back to our hometown in Arima, Trinidad.  We emigrated to Canada in the early 70's, Charmaine and family to Vancouver and  my family and I to Toronto.

The last time I saw Charmaine was when I visited her sister, Constance  shortly before Constance passed away, and that was may years ago.  However,  Charmaine and I always kept in touch through emails, phone calls and the never failing Christmas cards.  I am so sad to learn of her passing.

My heartfelt condolences to Winston, Susan, Pat and families.  May the memories of her you hold in your hearts bring healing and peace to your souls.

May her soul rest in the peace of the Lord

When I arrived in Vancouver in 2003 to pursue my studies, I did not have any family and only a few friends here.  Aunt Charmaine made an effort to reach out to me when I arrived.  Since then Aunt Charmaine has been a second mother to me.  She invited me to all of her immediate family gatherings.  She and her family have always ensured that there was a spot on the couch and a place at the table for me and my growing family.  She was such a giving and generous person who always thought of others before herself.  I will always remember her telling the story of what she did after she fell and broke her hip.  First, she called 911.  Second, she dragged herself to her bedroom to put on some makeup before the paramedics arrived.  Third, while waiting on the floor she decided to sweep up the dust that she could see under her bed.

Carmine Chang, you were my mother bridesmaid, two of my siblings godmother and you were second mother to us. I remember every Christmas you brought presents for us  like toys,colouring books,puzzles,games etc, which we look forward every year. You were a great organizer raising funds for St. Judge's Anglican Church, Arima/tea parties,fairs,games etc at Arima Tennis Court. We worked at Grell & Co and you were moved to Neal & Massy (parent company) until you migrated to Vancouver in late 1970. You invited me to visit you in July/August I guess you wanted to go down memory lane but unfortunately I got ill and couldn't make the trip. I  hope to come in September but sadden to hear you passed away. You were such caring,kind hearted,generous person and many more i cannot put in words.

Your mom always extended her warmest hospitality whenever I visited her home in Vancouver.  I remember the day I sought refuge in her home to escape a black bear that was roaming the streets.  I was walking back to Billy NgFook’s home a few blocks away and that was the end of my walks to Charmaine’s home.

I had my last conversation with your mom the day Billy
passed away.  We reminisced about some of the good times we had.  I hope one day we three will meet again.

The turnouts to those parties are a true testament of how positively she impacted her family and friends and how loved she was by all who knew her. Tonja and I will truly miss her smile, sense of humor and her open arms in our future visits back to N. Vancouver. I was truly blessed the day Charmaine contacted me in 1979 after my mum (Agnes Rona Dickson, nee Kong) passed. She became like a second mum/older sister to me, teaching me so much (especially about mum's side of the family) and sharing her boundless love & wisdom, amazing family & friends, and beautiful home with me. Our condolences for your great loss. We were unaware that Charmaine was in the hospital. We first met Charmaine about 30 years ago when booking flights to Trinidad and she was able to get us all a really good deal.  Over the years, we have continued to meet and socialize through the Trinidad Chinese Club.

Charmaine has always been such a gracious, friendly and loving person.  She has always had a smile for everyone and a  " How is everything going with you and the kids ? " .  She would always take time to listen and get updated with everything.  Your mom will be so missed.  

Those we love don't go away, they stay beside us everyday,  unseen,  unheard,  but always near,  still loved,  still missed and very dear.

It was with sadness and surprise to learn that Charmaine left us to be with her Maker.

I am glad to have made a real connection with Charmaine in the latter part of our lives and to share some of my memories of her in  my childhood.  I will certainly miss our chitchats and going to have our bento boxes at a Japanese restaurant in North Vancouver.  We had outstanding plans to try one of her favourite eating places in Capilano Mall.

I never met Charmaine in person and had only the pleasure of chatting with her on the phone following an exchange of e-mails about 2 years ago.  Her grandmother Marian Kong was the older sister of my grandmother Florence Lee.  I'd been trying to find out more about their parents and Brian Kong suggested I contact her.

We have known Charmaine in Trinidad, she worked for Grell & Company, she ran the Accounting Dept. I was a technician repairing her Burroughs Accounting machines at that time, her sister Constance Hoford would install and train the operators how to operate it.

After repairing the machines in her dept. She would sign my work sheet when I was finished, she was a wonderful and caring woman to the people that worked for her.

Charmaine also helped Allyson and myself to get our luggage safely to Toronto as she knew people in the Airline Industry in Trinidad.

It was a pleasure knowing Charmaine and her Family, Constance & her Family, may they Rest in Peace.

Auntie Charmaine was such a sweetheart... Originally my dad's trusty travel agent and our family friend, I'll remember her for her kindness and generosity, her scrumptious home lunch parties that stretched into evening (it was at one of these that you all introduced me to Polynesian dance, which has become a part of my life too), her famous sponge cake, and I still have the little aloe vera she gave me, which has now grown big and strong, sprouting little ones of its own. It will always remind me of her.  She was taken too quickly, but at least perhaps her suffering was short, and she's now at peace in God's embrace... We are indeed saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Charmaine.  She was a dear friend to our late mother, Mary Wong Moon, and the travel consultant for many of our family members.  For many of us she was the ever smiling, friendly face at many of the Trinidadian Chinese & Caribbean get togethers, happy to catch up with news about other family members.  Traveling with her was also quite the experience.  On a particular trip to Trinidad, she adopted both Ken & Wilkie as immediate family, and she made sure that they shared all the travel perks that she was entitled to. I was little when Aunty Charmaine left Arima for Canada.  But, every time I passed her house on the way to Girls R.C. someone would mention how nice she always was.  I finally got the opportunity to know her when Wilson moved to Vancouver.  I felt at ease the instant I met her.  She had a way of always making you feel at home.  If you were a distant relative or a friend of a friend she welcomed you into her home and fed you.  I cherish the memories I have spending time with her gardening, teaching me her recipes, filling in the gaps of the family history, going on road trips to the Seatle outlet malls, Victoria Island and sightseeing.   I was thrilled when Aunty came to my wedding in Tobago and she was there for Dad's 94th Birthday  in Toronto.   Aunty knew everyone and was well connected.  She procured a room at Crown Point Hotel for my wedding even though the hotel said they were full. She even kept in touch with one of my class mates from Bishops that I didn't even know she knew.  I miss you. Aunty... I always considered you one of my best girl friends because I could always talk to you about anything.  She doesn't know this but she is in the family wedding picture hanging in our study.  Thank you Winston, Susan & Pat for sharing your wonderful mom with the rest of us. Winston messaged me with the sad news.  I have told the people I remember that she knew down here.  Everyone is so saddened.  I was telling Winston that Aunty Charmaine loved life and lived it to the fullest.  She was so caring and thoughtful to everyone.  I for one will miss her a lot. We did not know that Charmaine was in hospital.  Sandi had spoken to her earlier this year and she did not mention her illness.  She was always very positive and giving best wishes to all of us.  Charmaine will be missed by all of us.

Ken remembers her recruiting him and Wilkie as her escorts/cousins on one of her trips back to T&T.  She was always fun to be with.  We spoke many times regarding the extended family and always fondly with pride of the grandchildren.  We will cherish those conversations.

I think I met you and your mom, briefly in 2005 when she came with Bonnie, and Viv for a farewell lunch with my mom Ruby in Richmond, BC.    Time has flown by so quickly.

Charmaine sent me photos of the lunch gathering afterwards.  I will remember her fondly.

Hello Winston, Susan & Pat,
So sorry to hear about Aunt Charmaine ... your mum will be greatly missed! 

I’m glad I was able to spend some time with her the few times I was over in Vancouver, however short they may have been. She was great at putting everyone at ease, and feeling included ... and the food!
Have great memories of the fun we had on the few road trips when she went with Will, Trish and I to explore Victoria and Seattle.

I am so completely shocked and saddened to hear of your mother's passing.  When Sean and I visited her last week she looked great and was in good spirits, she even went upstairs to visit Bonnie.  

Your mother was an amazing lady and I enjoyed many lunches with her and Bonnie and Vivian and my mom.  Afterwards we would go back to her house and she would have a spread of desserts and Chapmans ice cream.  Her generosity was limitless and I will miss her gentle spirit.

It is with great sorrow to hear of the passing of Charmaine. Jeannette and I extends our deepest and sincere sympathy to her family and in particular to her children, Winston, Susan, and Pat.  Richard worked with Charmaine at Neal and Massey in Trinidad in the 60's and again in BC in the 90's, as they forged their cultural aspirations to merge the Caribbean culture into the Canadian cultural landscape. It was always a pleasure to work with Charmaine and her children at that time.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Charmaine's family upon her passing. She will be dearly missed, and will always be remembered as a truly kind and caring person. 

We have had many years socializing together in the Trinidad Chinese Club. And what wonderful years they were!

Charmaine connected with us late last month, so we knew she was sick. And although she was blessed with a long life, the grief in her passing will not be any easier.

But rest assured she is at peace and with the Lord. And although her body is gone, her spirit is very much alive! She was such a good and caring soul.

Condolences to the family of Auntie Shamin. I was fortunate to meet and spend time with her on a visit to Elsie some time ago.
She was certainly a lively woman and a gentle soul.
Elsie and Keith would always tell us stories of the many visits to her house and the countless meals they shared.

Auntie Charmaine will always be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, her willingness to render assistance and a helpful hand to everyone who knew her and also welcomed strangers with open arms.

Auntie Charmaine was another mother to us and we all enjoyed our visits to her home where we engaged in animated and interesting conversations and very often, reflected on her years spent in her hometown, Arima in Trinidad.

Auntie Charmaine will always be remembered as a generous, caring and helpful person and our wonderful memories of her, will remain indelible on our minds.

It is with great sadness to hear that Charmaine has left us. We remember wonderful times, holidays in Trinidad and lovely hospitality at her home in Vancouver. With her vivacious personality and friendliness, it was a joy to be around her. We will miss her company and inspiring emails. May she enjoy the rewards of Heaven she so richly deserve.
