Anita Coreen Maxwell

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, our sister, our friend, Anita Coreen Maxwell on Friday morning June 11, 2021 at the age of 84. Anita was born March 15, 1937 in Matsqui, BC to Mary and Joseph Benoit, the eldest of 4 siblings; Raymond, Dona & Carrol. Anita grew up in Vancouver, BC, moving to North Vancouver in the late 1950’s, marrying James Cherry and raising two daughters, Michelle & Lorna. Prior to that, she spent time in the Women’s Royal Canadian Navel Service in Halifax.

Anita was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in her 30s and survived Breast Cancer in her 70s. Despite lifelong health issues, it did not stop her from doing what was important. She embraced family and devoted to raising her girls. She enjoyed hosting frequent family gatherings, and group vacations were not uncommon.

Anita loved gardening, and was particularly proud of her roses. She became quite accomplished as an oil painter, her subjects being flowers and scenery. She loved painting mountains, lakes and forests. She was an avid Bridge player, enjoying weekly games with the Bridge group, and was active in many social organizations. Anita travelled many countries over the years. Her favorites being Hawaii, Thailand, Greece and the Caribbean. Her most memorable was a painting excursion to France. She loved art galleries, museums and music.

In recent years, she moved to Surrey to be close to family. Many hours were spent puzzling with her sister Carrol, caring for her dog and little backyard garden. She never lost her quirky sense of humor and appreciation for friends, loved ones and life itself. She believes Angels watch over.

Anita leaves behind sister Carrol Ference, daughters Michelle Larsen (John) and Lorna Cherry, grandsons Michael Booth, Dominic & Alexander (Hannah) dosSantos, great granddaughter Mikayla Booth, best friend Jean MacPherson and her beloved dog Muffin. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her mother Mary, father Joseph, brother Raymond (Penny) and sister Dona (Late Ken).
