On August 10, 2018, Shirley Lee Chaffin went home to be with her Lord and Savior, following a very short illness. Shirley was born on Christmas Day, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois; to Orville and Jessie Tucker.
The Tuckers moved around Chicago, until Orville was able to build a house (with his own hands) for his family in Villa Park, Illinois. Shirley attended the two room Salt Creek School for her Middle School, and graduated with thirteen fellow students, with whom she maintained contact with for many years. Shirley was a graduate of York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois. Shortly, thereafter, she went to work for International Harvester Co., in Melrose Park, Illinois. At IH, she met the love of her life, David Chaffin, and they were married on March 1, 1958. Together, they had two sons, Mark and Todd. The Chaffins moved to Columbus, Indiana for a couple of years before being transferred to Arlington, Texas in 1966. Once established in Arlington, Shirley became active in various activities at First Baptist Arlington, including assistant Librarian. Shirley was also die-hard baseball fan, following both the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Following retirement, Shirley and Dave moved to East Texas, where they enjoyed a slower paced life, living in a beautiful log cabin on Lake Cypress Springs. Once again, Shirley became active in her church serving at Purley Baptist Church in Purley, Texas. She served as a Sunday School teacher and with the youth programs. Shirley and Dave returned to the DFW area in 2014, to be close to family, and life-long friends. And, eventually, they came to reside at the St. Francis Village Retirement Community in Crowley, Texas.
Shirley was truly devoted to her family and friends. She was know for her "quick wit and laugh." Shirley (Nana) deeply loved her three grandsons: David Ross, William Ryan, and Kyle Andrew. She will be dearly missed by all her family, and many, many friends.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, David, of 60 years in marriage. Son, Mark and wife Rebecca, in Houston, TX; son, Todd and wife Kara, in Arlington, TX; grandsons: David Ross in Arlington, William Ryan in Houston, TX, and Kyle Andrew in Arlington, TX; sister-in-law, Faye Tucker; niece, Patricia Tucker; and nephew, Patrick Tucker.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on September 14, 2018 - 11am at the St. Francis Protestant Fellowship Chapel, 281 St. Clare Dr., Crowley, Texas 76036.
Following the Celebration, there will be a light lunch provided. Interment will be at 3pm at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.
