Robert (Robin) C. Kirkman, 68, of North Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Tariffville, CT, cherished husband of Susan (Metzler) Kirkman, died at home on December 7, 2011 from pancreatic cancer. Robin was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina on December 3, 1943 to the late Charles Gordon Kirkman, Sr. and Clyde (Mullis) Kirkman. A graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College with a BS in Mathematics and North Carolina State University with a MS in Finite Mathematics, he spent his entire career working with computer systems, first at Combustion Engineering, Inc./ABB and later through his consulting firm, Open Systems Services. Upon his retirement in 2010, Robin began Spanish lessons and volunteered at El Sol Community Center, but most of his time was spent riding his bicycle and gardening. Although travel was an important part of Robin’s life, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Christopher Kirkman and his wife Carrie McGinnis of Brooklyn, NY and his daughter Michelle Kirkman of Washington, DC, a brother Gordon Kirkman of Old Saybrook, CT and two grandchildren Kate and Charlie Kirkman.
Family and friends may gather at the Howard-Price Funeral Home 754 US Highway 1, N Palm Beach, FL 33408 on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 12 - 2pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palm Beaches, 635 Prosperity Farms Rd, N. Palm Beach, FL 33408 on Monday December 12, 2011 at 10am. An additional memorial gathering will be held in Connecticut at a later date.
