Michael “Mike” Liddle was a caring, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He left this world peacefully on December 3rd, 2023 at the age of 92 in his home in Florida in the company of his family. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years coupled with the complications faced by polio survivors showed his courage and strength in facing life’s challenges and he did so with a fighting attitude and always with a smile. Michael was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be incredibly missed by his family and friends.
Michael grew up in Alwoodley, Leeds (UK). He completed his secondary education at Berkhamsted boarding school in England and then, completed his military service at the Officer Cadet School (Aldershot) under the infamous Regimental Sargeant Major Brittain.
He was always an adventurous man and in 1951, he decided to apply for an international assignment with the Insurance company he worked for. They sent him to India, then Sri Lanka and then Brazil where he met the love of his life, Heather and married her 9 months later. They were married 65 years, 45 of which were spent in Brazil, and together built his proudest legacy, his family. Michael loved his family and friends and his favorite pastimes were spending time with them at “The Island of Jaguanum” in Rio or on the golf course (at Gavea Golf Club). He loved singing, acting, playing solitaire and watching sports. Michael was one of the founding partners and later CEO of Tudor Marsh & McLennan in Brazil where he worked almost 40 years. He lived a long, happy, and fulfilling life.
Michael is survived by his wife, Heather, his children and their spouses, Melanie (Bruce) and Robin (Clau) his grandchildren and their spouses, Nick (Emily) and Jackie (Brandon), Jonathan, Matthew, Sabrina, Chris, Michel and Sophia and his great grandchildren, Sophie, Brooklyn and Chloe.
There will be no funeral but rather a family gathering to scatter his ashes in some of his favorite places as per his specific request. If you would like to leave a comment of your favorite memories of Michael in the section below, the family would love to hear your stories and memories of Michael.
