On January 5th Clayton C. (Rob/PopPop) Robinson passed peacefully at his home in Jupiter, FL with his family by his side. He was born 11/25/23 to Clayton and Glenna Mae (Bidlack) Robinson, the youngest of 6 boys and 1 girl. He grew-up on the Robinson Hybrid Corn farm in Radnor (north of Columbus), Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University. He was an avid lifetime fan - Go Buckeyes! While travelling as a fertilizer salesman, he met Katherine Jewel (Julie) Endsley, the love of his life, in her hometown of Kinsman, Ohio. They were married on 12/17/48. About a year and 1child (Ron) later, they moved back to run the farm. By 1952 they had 2 more children (Judy and Craig) and in 1954 they moved to Worthington, Ohio where he began a 35 year career in life insurance sales management under the Travelers’ red umbrella, retiring as an Executive Vice President. Through Travelers and a mutually acquired love of golf they made many of their closest friends. Travelers’ conferences took them to some of the finest resorts where they cultivated more friends and golf. It even garnered him the opportunity to play Augusta National (not in the Masters) where he birdied the 12th hole at Amen Corner.
He was very handy and resourceful - able to build or fix just about everything, except one unfortunate waffle-maker. His skills were honed as he cleared the land and did a lot of the finish work on the house they built (1968) in Sunset Farm from a design Julie found in a magazine. Along the way, he also developed a knack for professionally refinishing much of the furniture that beautifully adorned their homes. His fantastic breakfasts and fabulous grilled steaks will also be missed.
As their kids were growing up, they took annual trips to Florida where the seed was planted for their decision to retire to the PGA National community in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Wherever they lived, he always had a garden – can’t take the farm out of the farmer!
He will be forever remembered as a strong, quiet gentleman of tremendous integrity who adored his wife and took great care of his family. He is survived by his wife, Julie, 3 children (spouses) - Ron Robinson (Connie), Judy Griffin (Dan deceased), Craig Robinson (Marla), 8 grandchildren - Mark Robinson, Diana Robinson Martucci (Eddie), Meaghan Griffin, Shauna Griffin Lewis (Tanner), Dan Griffin (Claudia), Rianne Kistner (Steve), Leah Robinson O’Hearn (Jay), Katherine Robinson and 6 great grandchildren - Dante, Gianni and Enzo Martucci, Aidan Griffin, Grayden and Cooper O’Hearn.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 5:00 - 7:00 on Monday, January 9th at the Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 754 US Highway One, North Palm Beach, FL.
