Claire Margaret Basara, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, went to the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Born on June 8, 1934, in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, PA, Claire was the only child born to Clara (nee Nolan) Kelly. She attended Little Flower High School before marrying and raising a large family with her late husband of 64 years, Stanley. She held down the fort while her and Stan’s journeys took them to Palm Beach Shores, FL, Cherry Hill, NJ, Greenwich and Ridgefield, CT, Basking Ridge, Moorestown, and Delanco, NJ, and finally back to Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Every stop along the way was enhanced by Claire’s warm and welcoming personality and generous hospitality. They made many lifelong friends everywhere they went, which Stan attributed to Claire’s ability to hold a conversation with a wall. All were welcomed and well-fed in her home.
Claire remained devoted to her Catholic faith throughout her 90 years, volunteering countless hours to numerous parishes, as well as a stint as parish secretary at St. Ignatius in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Her greatest sorrows were the deaths of her grandson Aaron in 2016, Stan in 2017, and her son Joe in 2020. She missed them dearly but is now united with them at the Lord’s table.
Claire relished the role of being a Mom to everyone, but especially her 5 children: Joe (Carol), Dennis (Denise), Debbie (Jim), Mary Jo (Dan), and Greg (Becky). She was “Gram” to 15 grandchildren: Beth, Justin (Katie), Brett (Missy), Tyler, Gabrielle, Emily, Aaron, Megan, Chris (Jess), Kyle (Sydney), her personal troubadour Patrick, Kelly (Ricky), Michael, Shannon, and Nathan (McLane). Claire also has 16 (about to be 17!) great grandchildren: Molly, Ella, Bobby, Caroline, Tommy, Frank, Joe, Lily, Hayes, Ryan, Mabel, Josie, Elliott, Ian, Julian, Georgia, and Baby Nathan & McLane (due January). She also loved to be the best “Aunt Claire” to her many nieces and nephews in the Basara and DeMalto families.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at La Posada and all of the aides and others who provided gracious care and comfort to Claire during her final years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Saturday, July 27, 2024, 10:00 AM, at St. Clare’s RC Church, 821 Prosperity Farms Rd, North Palm Beach, FL, 33408. Interment will follow at a date to be determined, at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson, NJ, where Claire will be buried with Stan and near her son Joe and grandson Aaron. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Aaron M. Price Moorestown Friends School ’07 Memorial Scholarship Fund, https://www.mfriends.org/giving/price-scholarship/ or by mail to Moorestown Friends School, 110 E Main St, Moorestown, NJ, 08057-2949.
