Susie, Heartfelt condolences to you, and all of the family. Bruce was such a wonderful, forward looking, funny, family guy. Bruce, when he was at the helm of Sparks Co.  was a constant in my professional life. I recall a fun dinner with you, Bruce and the Mesritzes in New York City! May all the memories of joys of his lifepath fill the hole he has left in your hearts. Abracos.

Bruce Scherr was like a father to me.  At age thirteen I joined the A Better Chance program in Andover, Massachusetts to attend high school in Andover.  The Scherr’s were my host family for the three years that I attended high school.  During the first two years in Andover I would spend one weekend every month at the Scherr’s home and every Wednesday after school I would go to the Scherr’s home for dinner.  During my senior year my dorm was being renovated and so I lived with the Scherr’s.  Bruce was very involved with the A Better Chance program.  He was the president of the board for a good part of the time that I was there.

Bruce was the father that I did not have growing up.  He was very kind and was always available to help me with my homework, specially revising my essays, and later on reviewing my resumes.  Bruce was a great mentor.  Someone that I would talk to about my career plans and future goals.  My children saw Bruce as a grandfather and called him Poppy Bruce.  Till this day the Scherr’s are family to me.  

This past summer my daughter and I had the opportunity to go to West Palm Beach, Florida and visit Susie and Bruce.  My daughter had the opportunity to get to know Poppy Bruce better.  I feel so fortunate to have had the time to spend with them this past July.

My deepest condolences to Susie, who is my second mom and to Cari and Jeremy, who are like siblings to me.  My heart aches for this great loss.  



I have been deeply saddened by the news I just learned. Please receive my deepest condolences, and I am sure those of many of my colleagues in DG AGRI of the European Commission, who are not yet aware. We shared many memorable moments together during his Seminars, which were not just professionally insightful, but also full of his sense of humour and human touch.

To me especially, Bruce was  not just one of the first persons I met during my DC stay some twenty years back, but one of my best professional friends up until months ago. I will miss him much.

I grew up with Bruce. 
Bruce, Susan, Sid, and Sarah were my second family. Bruce and I spent our childhood playing golf and working at Symphony Hall in Newark, NJ. I met Susie in High School. Bruce and Susie were and remained sweethearts. The wonderful  memories of Bruce will remain with me for the rest of my life.

The older brother I never had.  

Never have I met a man as smart as Bruce who had the astonishing capability to maintain a nice attitude to others although they were obviously so much less intelligent than he was.

A great Mentor, the best teacher, a formidable speaker, a razor sharp brain and always great to hang around with, irrespective wether for talks about agro-economics or for personal matters. 

A true friend to many who gave the word ‘loyalty’ genuine substance. 

Bruce Scherr was a Big Man. A real one.

I met Bruce when I joined NERC in 2009 and had the pleasure of working with him on Board activities till he resigned from the NERC Board in 2015. He was  a true expert in his field, a true gentleman, a jokester that loved to make people laugh. However even more so for me he was a true inspiration and confidant and supported  me through my son's thyroid cancer. His care, his friendship will never be forgotten.  We caught up not too long ago and it was like as if it was still the ole' NERC days, I will miss him. 

Our heart is breaking over this loss.  Bruce was a boss, colleague, friend and mentor.  Always available, always interested in you as a person and someone you could always rely on for honest advice.  His intellect and passion for our business was well known, but those who knew him knew that the passion extended to all who he came in contact with in a vey personal and wonderful way.  Connie's and my deepest condolences to Susie, Jeremy and Cari and family.  God bless all of you.  We can't be with you now in person, but you are with us in our thoughts.

Growing up back in New Jersey it was always a party with the Scherr families. It was a joy to be one of your 1st cousins. May you Rest In Peace.

Sharlene and I would like to pass on our sincere condolences to you and your family.  From the first time I met Bruce when he interviewed for a position at Ohio State back in 1974 I admired his intellect and friendly personality. I considered him as a true friend, dedicatedly professional and great boss.  I will remember many of our mutual challenges that we encountered over nearly 50 years of work and play.

I remember when I first met Bruce and Susie when he was elected to the NERC Board in 2003 or 2004.  We became friends quickly both as associates at NERC and as fellow golfers.  I stayed in touch with Bruce frequently after he left the NERC and spoke with him just last week.

I will always remember him as a good friend.
