Paul Joseph Nichols, 93 years old, a longtime resident of Miami, Florida passed away in his sleep on Thursday, December 26, 2013. He was born November 28, 1920 in Knoxville, Illinois to George and Katherine Nichols, one of 12 children. Paul graduated from Knoxville High School where he was an athlete excelling in basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of World War II proudly serving his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army.
Paul married Georgia Cramer Stanforth and moved to Miami, Florida. He worked in the construction industry as a plasterer earning a reputation for a strong work ethic. Paul retired to take care of his ailing wife until her death in September, 1994. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1995 to live closer to his children where he proudly maintained his lawn, prepared tasty meals, enjoyed fishing, sharing many “fish stories”, playing cards with his grandchildren and keeping them in line when they created their own set of rules. Paul moved to Sinai Plaza a few years ago as his progression of Alzheimer’s required more supervision. He was content, but became increasingly confused in his final year. He maintained his sense of humor throughout.
Paul is survived by his four children, David Stanforth, Thomas Nichols, John Nichols, and Kimberly Hinojosa, his five grandchildren, Jami Stanforth-Choueiry, Cory Cooper, Whitney Nichols, Christopher Hinojosa, and Taylor Nichols, and his four great-grandchildren, Lilly and Gia Cooper and Liam and Evangeline Choueiry. Additionally, he is survived by two siblings, Bernard and Lewie Nichols.
Graveside service at 10:00AM on December 31, 2013 at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57 Avenue, Hialeah, FL 33014.
