María married Alejandro Romero in 1948 and had three daughters. They came to the United States in the early 1970s and lived in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Miami. María had four grandchildren whom she helped raise from birth.
María was a devoted Christian and donated much of her money to Christian causes; her pride and joy being a church in Culebras, a small fishing town in northern Perú, which was built by the townspeople with funds provided by her. She subsequently travelled often, usually with suitcases of bibles for the church.
Professionally, she was an accomplished dressmaker, having worked in Lima, Perú and in boutiques of Madison Avenue, NYC. After moving to Miami, she opened a workshop to teach sewing and dressmaking and operated it successfully for several years. She remained active in this profession until her 93rd birthday.
María is survived by her sisters Loren, Elena and brothers Alfredo, Nayo and Yaco who live in Peru; by her daughters María, Evelyn and Jane, their husbands Greg, René, Carlos and her grandchildren Chris, Stephen, Angelica and Alex. She also leaves behind many caring relatives in Perú, Switzerland, Italy, Puerto Rico and New York.
Arrangements were provided by Southern Memorial Funeral Homes at 15011 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida 33181. Telephone 305.940.6304.
