It is with great sadness that I report to you the death of Rhodes Theodore Mazer,
who passed away on September 7, 2023 in Miami, Florida.
Rhodes was related within the extended Israel family through his mother, Clara
Kaler Mazer who was a daughter of Zaval and Rose (Runye) Israel Kaler. Rose was a
daughter of Kalman Hirsch and Ida Frances Israel.
Rhode’s loving niece, Honi Mazer GoNleib, prepared a beautiful obituary for her
uncle Rhodes, which follows below in her words:
“Rhodes Theodore Mazer of Miami Fla. passed away at home, his loving wife Manon by his side.
Rhodes was born February 18, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to Dave and Clara Mazer.
He grew up in Birmingham, attended and graduated from the University of Alabama and was a lifelong
Alabama football fan.
Rhodes was an Army veteran, a quintessenIal businessman who worked with his brother Sidney to build a
successful retail and then wholesale furniture business .
Rhodes was known for his easy sense of humor and generosity. He loved to laugh and tell jokes.
Throughout his life Rhodes was incredibly optimistIc. The words “down” or “depressed” were unfamiliar
to him. He loved life - even with its tragedies he always found a way to find joy.
Time and illness over the last several years started to diminish his health, but he always found the sunny
side of any challenge he had to endure.
He loved seeing friends and family who were scattered throughout the country. He loved phone calls and
visits.
UntIl the last several weeks of his life, Rhodes paid attention to everything - even with limited vision and
hearing he knew everything that was going on around him and in the world, and he would make phone
calls to family and friends, reminding them of birthdays or current events.
Rhodes was predeceased by his parents and brother Sidney Mazer. He is survived by his devoted wife
Manon Mazer, his daughter Sabrina Mazer, loving nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Rhodes was blessed not only with a wonderful caregiver in his wife Manon but also his friend and
caregiver Jorge.”
A graveside service for Rhodes will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00
PM at Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels, 21100 West Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL
33332.
Condolences may be sent to Manon Mazer, 2000 Towerside Ter. Apt. 702, Miami, FL 33138-2232
