Viola "Susan" (Brown) Maher

Susan was born October 11, 1929, in Somerset, KY, to Charles Cecil and Rutha Ellen Burton Brown. She grew up in Pine Bluff, AR, and graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1948. On August 20, 1954, in Upper Darby, PA, she married Richard F. Maher of Pine Bluff, AR. Susan was proudly employed by the State of Arkansas as an administrative assistant at Camp Robinson in NLR. For many years she and her husband enjoyed houseboating on Lake Ouachita with their many boat friends. Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Benton.

Susan is survived by her daughter Melissa Ford (David) of Jersey City, NJ; granddaughter Sarah Ford Madden (Matthew) of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter Mary Kathleen Ford of Schenectady, NY; grandson Noah Bradley Maher, his mother Lisa Loftis Johnson, and her son Alex Wade of Malvern, AR; and sister Norma Brown Hales of Pine Bluff, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her adoring husband Richard F. Maher, her son Philip Bradley Maher, her sisters Rhoda May Brown Blanton, Bessie Christine Brown Smith, Margaret Lucille Brown Hoover, and her brothers David Sidney Brown, Garlan Burnis Brown, Carrol Alfred Brown, and Charles Lewis Brown.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday January 26 from 2-4pm at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock to celebrate Susan’s life. A private burial was held at Rest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or to your favorite charity.
