Mr. Sam Vandiver, 83, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022. Sam was born in Boughton, Arkansas on January 24, 1939 to Herman "Bub" and Ada Mae Vandiver. Sam grew up in Prescott, Arkansas and after graduating from Prescott High School, went to what was then called Henderson State Teacher's College. Sam began his career as a high school teacher at Sylvan Hills High School. He later received his master's degree in counseling from UCA and worked as a high school counselor at Jacksonville High School. Sam then began a sales career working first at Jostens and then Balfour selling class rings and graduation items all over the state of Arkansas for many years. He returned to teaching at C-step at Camp Robinson and finished his teaching career as a counselor at Paron, Arkansas.
Sam was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church for many years and while there enjoyed working with first graders. He enjoyed being outdoors, building things, and most of all being a grandfather. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Patricia and his children Sherry (Byrom) Walker of El Dorado, Arkansas and his son Sam Vandiver Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas, grandchildren Jonah, Noah, and Annie Walker of El Dorado, Arkansas and Samuel Vandiver of Lafayette, Louisiana, his brothers Duane (Ann) Vandiver, Ronnie (Terri) Vandiver of Prescott, Arkansas and one sister, Linda (Denman) May of Eastland, Texas.
A visitation for Sam will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Sam will be laid to rest in Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
