Robert “Bob” Vaughn Childers, 71, of Alexander passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 12, 1949 to Robert Oscar Childers and Kathleen Blake Childers.
Bob was a Vietnam Veteran, he joined the United States Army on January 5, 1972, serving in the HHC 1st Battalion 30TH Infantry until his discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the medal for Expert (Rifle M-16 and M-14). He went on to work for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Inspector for the U. S. Geological Survey until his retirement.
Bob had many interests and hobbies; he loved doing wood work, cooking, deer hunting with friends and bird watching. Most of all he loved his family and was always finding ways to help others. His love for his family and friends with be cherished by all of his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathleen Childers and son, Christopher Morris. He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Sharon Childers of Alexander; his son, Rob Childers of Lockport, LA; daughter, Suzie Childers of Alexander, Andi Holeman of Jacksonville and Kevin Morris of Connecticut; brothers, Michael Childers of N. Little Rock and Gary Childers of Maumelle; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren along with his niece and four nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 14th at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., NLR. A Graveside Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 15th at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at 1501 W. Maryland Ave., Sherwood, AR.
