Ray Burnham Pennington, 97, of Sherwood, AR, passed away on August 22, 2024. Born on October 1, 1926, in Garner, AR, Ray was the son of Jasper Sylvester Pennington and Effie Burnham. He was the owner of Ray Pennington’s Cabinet Shop since 1964 and a dedicated member of North Hills Baptist Church for over 50 years. Ray also served as a commissioner for the Sylvan Hills Volunteer Fire Department for many years, including a term as chairman. His hobbies included playing the harmonica, and he had a passion for hunting and fishing, particularly for crappie. A lover of crappie, Ray recently asked, “When are we going to have some crappie?” He was also an avid baseball coach for the Sylvan Hills Optimist Club and a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Allene Pennington, his son Dan Pennington, and his brothers Jean and Bill Pennington.
Ray is survived by his son Bob (Lynn) Pennington, daughter-in-law Marjorie Pennington, four grandchildren: Sean (Taylor) Pennington, Brooke (Chris) Thode, James (Manda) Pennington, and Bethany (Steve) Bonham, as well as great-grandchildren Ethan and Ryder Pennington, Brooklyn Thode, Cadence and Wesley Pennington, Blake Stiedle, Abby (Paul) Stafford, and McKelvey Bonham. He also leaves behind three great-great-grandchildren: Zayden, Naomi, and Wrenley; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at North Hills Baptist Church in Sherwood, AR, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bro. Jim Ward. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
