On April 27, 2023, Paul David Richmond, 69, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed away at Dauphin Island, Alabama. Paul, son of Stonewall (Pete) Richmond and Juanita Thompson Richmond was born on August 10, 1953 in Dyess, Arkansas. Raised in Dyess, he graduated from Rivercrest High School in 1971, and briefly studied at Arkansas State University. Paul discovered he had Stargardt disease, a rare hereditary illness which affects the macula of the eye. He learned about a program at Lions World Services for the Blind that allowed him to pursue computer programming using adaptive technology, and after completing the program, he was hired by the IRS. Paul was employed by the IRS in Washington, D.C., before relocating to Little Rock.
Paul accepted a position with Alltel in Little Rock when his position with the IRS was transferred to another state, where he stayed until Verizon acquired the business. He remained an employee of Verizon through December 2015. In December 2016, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arkansas Tech University after furthering his educational pursuits online. He subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree.
After retiring, Paul continued his passions of gardening and beekeeping along with church and family activities. He enjoyed being outdoors, going camping, and making memories with the people he cherished.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Stonewall (Pete) Richmond and Juanita Thompson Richmond along with brothers Donald Richmond, Kerry Richmond, Tim Richmond and Dennis Richmond. He is survived by Debra Parker Richmond, his wife of 30 years, sisters Dorothy Hebert and Don of Lumberton, Texas, and Felecia Blanton and Joe of Sikeston, Missouri, brothers Larry Richmond and Glenda of Keiser, Arkansas, and Ted Richmond of Dyess, Arkansas, and children Paul Jason Richmond and Beth of Augusta, Maine, Amie Strickland and Roger of Collinsville, Mississippi, Donna Richmond of Blytheville, Arkansas, Elizabeth Carroll of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Rebecca Richmond of Marquette, Michigan, 14 grandchildren, as well as 7 great grandchildren, countless family members, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A visitation for Paul will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM both at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, AR 72117. An interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
