

Neil Rudolph Schalchlin, 95, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025. Neil was born on October 10, 1929, in Sheridan, Arkansas, the son of Albert Rudolph “Rip” Schalchlin and Mamie Malissie Malone Schalchlin. He married his beloved wife, Carolyn Frances Olsen, in 1952, and they shared nearly 70 years of marriage before her passing in 2022.
Neil proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from June 1948 to May 1952, aboard the USS St. Paul. In recognition of his service and dedication to our nation, a flag was flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor on March 1, 2025.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a lifelong servant of God, faithfully pastoring churches in the Baptist Missionary Association throughout his ministry. Neil’s gentle spirit, sense of humor, and deep devotion to his faith and family left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his four sons: Steven Mark Schalchlin of New York City, NY; David Olsen Schalchlin of Sherwood, AR; Corwin “Corky” Neil (Diane) Schalchlin of Prosper, TX; and Scott Matthew (Annette) Schalchlin of Austin, TX; as well as four grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jonathan, Geoff, and Alex; and seven great-grandchildren: Audrey, Eleanor, Angela, Millie, Julia, Matthew, and Ollie. He is also survived by his sister, Letha Joyce Schalchlin Eberle.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his granddaughter Emily, his parents Albert and Mamie Schalchlin, and his brothers Arthur Christopher Schalchlin, Paul Martin Schalchlin, and Floyd Raymond Schalchlin.
Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock on April 9, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until services begin at 1:00 p.m., with Bro. Mike Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan, Arkansas.
