Mary Lois Dover Woods, of Little Rock, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord at age 93 on July 30, 2024. She was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on September 28, 1930 to Ervin Edgar Dover and Willie Jane Felts Dover, and spent her early years at Battles in Izard County, Arkansas. She was the fifth of seven children and a 1948 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School where she played on the girls basketball team. She had so many wonderful memories of traveling by bus to games and leading the team in scoring.
Mary Lois married J.B. Woods of Zion, Arkansas on December 21, 1949 and they were married for 65 years when J.B. passed away in 2015. They were the owners/operators of Heights Thriftway Market in Little Rock and both retired in 1995. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock where she participated in the Body Recall fitness class and sang in the Senior Adult choir. Mary Lois was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed watching and listening to sports, especially Razorback baseball.
Mary Lois is survived by a son, Gayle Woods and wife, Debbie, of Rogers, three daughters, Marcia Chaney and husband, David, of Cabot, Mary Jane Rice and husband, Paul, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Lynne Woods, of Little Rock, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Wiles, of Batesville, many nieces and nephews and other friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, J.B. Woods, brothers, J.W. Dover, Loy Dover, and Ray Dover, and sisters, Olita Dunehew and Helen Holland.
No services are scheduled. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of the Shell Alzheimer’s Center for their care for Mary Lois over the last six years.
