James “Jim” Floyd Davidson, a dedicated patriot, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and decorated Air Force veteran, passed away on January 8, 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy of honor, service, and love. Born on March 12, 1941, his life was a testament to bravery, dedication, and selflessness. He was the third born child of Robert and Jane Davidson. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Davidson and sister Mary Jane Johnson.
After graduating from Arkansas State University Jim was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force in 1964 and served his country with honor and distinction, dedicating 21 years of his life to the Air Force as a navigator, retiring with the rank of Major. He served with valor in the Vietnam War and was honored with the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery and meritorious service. After Vietnam, Jim served as a squadron navigator with the 89th Military Airlift Wing, which provides air transportation for the President of the United States and other government officials.
After retiring from active duty, Jim continued his commitment to the Air Force as a civilian, training future generations of Air Force navigators on the C-130 aircraft at Little Rock Air Force Base. His passion for service and dedication to his country continued long after his military career.
A 45-year member of Park Hill Baptist Church, Jim always shared his deep faith in Christ and carried out the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations by serving as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Susan Davidson, who stood by his side throughout 54 years of marriage. Their courtship began in Dewey Beach, Delaware and they married on September 20, 1969. Their enduring partnership was a beacon of love and support for their family and friends.
Jim and Susan had three children: Todd Davidson, Amy Danza (Alex), Hannah Bentley (Justin). Jim enjoyed eight grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as their “Poppy”: Sean Luke Davidson, Destiny Davidson, Dagny Danza, Delia Danza, Louisa Danza, Harper Bentley, Harrison Bentley, and Jackson Bentley.
Jim is further survived by his sister, Velma Gifford, of Newberry, South Carolina, who shared a lifelong bond with him and cherished memories of their times together.
He will forever be remembered for his kind, patient demeanor, service to others, and dedication to his family. Anyone that knew Jim heard him tell them he was “proud of them” and ask them “what can I get you?” He was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.
A private family graveside service will be held Friday, January 19 with an Honor Guard Ceremony at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Memorials can be made to the Veterans organization, carrytheload.org or Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock.
