Irmgard Nelson was born in Stuttgart, Germany November 8, 1941, the daughter of Erwin and Julie Maurer (Rhode). Born a German citizen, she completed her schooling there. During her late teens she worked at the Hetzel Factory in Obertürkheim station, Stuttgart, Germany where they specialized in making ink for fountain pens and blotters. Later she worked in the NCO club at Ayers Kaserne (army base) in Kirch-Göns, Germany where she met her husband, David M. Nelson. Irmgard became a U.S. Citizen December 4, 1980, and she finished her career working for Shoney’s Restaurant for 22 years.
She loved cats, German polka music, country music, cooking and comedy shows, and was a faithful friend to those she knew. She was a servant to her friends in need and tireless in their support. She was very independent, never wanting to burden anyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband David Nelson; his parents Richard and Bertha Jean Nelson; brother Albert Maurer; sister Helga (Maurer) Reichert and her husband Eugen; nephew Edgar Reichert; brother-in-law Rodolfo Bautista; brother in-law Daniel Nelson; and great friends Mabel and Charles Denny, and William (Bill) Muse.
She is survived by her sister Hannelore (Maurer) Cummings and her husband Michael of Texas; her sister Erika (Maurer) Bautista of California; her Brother Verner Maurer and his wife Betty of Germany; her nieces and nephews and their families: Joyce (Cummings) Panda of Missouri; Angela (Reichert) Hackbarth of Germany; Susanne Reichert of Germany; Michaela Lasch of Germany; Wolfgang Reichert of Germany; Maria Reed of Wisconsin; Richard Bautista of California; JoAnn (Bautista) Wilman of California; Annette Maurer of Germany; Reiner Maurer of Germany; and other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Bobby Jean Cole, her husband Clyde Daniel Cole of Iowa and her step grandson Paul Michael Cole of Iowa; sister-in-law Deborah Moore of South Carolina; sister-in-law Jeanne Nelson in Alabama; and great friends and Dee McKenzie, Janice Muse, and Mary Allen of Sherwood, AR.
