Clarence “Bud” Hill, 79, of Sherwood, AR, left this Earth for his Heavenly Home on Sunday, January 29th, 2023. Bud was born in Little Rock, AR on October 21st, 1943 to Johnnie Lloyd Hill and Billie Irene Hill.
Bud held many shop foreman positions in his career, but none more important than at Little Rock Auto Parts, where he would meet his loving wife of 42 years, Anita Drake Hill. They were married on August 30th, 1980 and several years later welcomed a son. Bud would continue his career for several years as a shop foreman, rebuilding engines in cars. After serving many years as a foreman, Bud entered into the maintenance business with River City Energy in the early 2000s. He held this position for several years before River City Energy was taken over by Coulson Oil Company. He continued in the same work until he retired in 2009. During this time, he met many friends. After a short retirement he couldn’t stand not working. Ace Hardware opened its doors in Sherwood, which is where he would finish out his working years. He enjoyed all of his work family at Ace and was loved by many. He was also an avid golfer spending many weekends with his son on the golf course. While those may have been things that Bud enjoyed, he was first and foremost a very Christian man. He served as a deacon at Remount Baptist Church for several years and has been a member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church for the past 12 years. You could always find Bud volunteering at church, fellowshipping with his family and friends, and spreading the gospel with anyone that would listen. Bud had many joys in life, but none were more important than being “Poppa” to his two granddaughters, Emalynn and Paitynn. Poppa spoiled them from the day they were born and would do anything for his girls. In his final days he was very tired, but when his girls were in the room he knew. For someone who hadn’t felt like eating much of anything the past three weeks, he mustered up the strength to eat an entire cup of chocolate pudding and some apple sauce being shoveled in spoonful after spoonful by his girls because he knew feeding him is what they needed. He didn’t seem to mind that he ended up wearing most of it! Poppa opened his eyes, lifted his head and held their little hands. He loved his girls and they 100% absolutely loved their Poppa.
Bud was a devout Christian, husband, father, and Poppa. He will be missed by many, but we take comfort in knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father and that one day, we again will be reunited.
Bud is preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Lloyd Hill, mother Billie Irene Hill, sister Sue Ballentine, brother Johnny “Cot” Hill, and brother Jim Hill. Bud is survived by his wife, Anita Hill (Sherwood), son and family Jeremiah, Mandi, Emalynn, and Paitynn Hill (Greenbrier), brother Gene (Joanne) Hill (Sardis), brother-in-law Earl Ballentine (Bryant), sister-in-law Susan Hill (Little Rock), sister-in-law Annie Hill (Searcy), along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Bud will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR 72117.
