Bill J. Read, 94, of North Little Rock passed away on February 4, 2020 in his residence, surrounded by family. Bill was born on April 17, 1925, in Rector Arkansas, the son of William and Willie Read. Bill married his wife Martha on February 19, 1951, sharing just 15 days shy of 69 years of marriage. He served in the US Army during WWII and then joined the Arkansas State Police, where he received awards in marksmanship and was the first non FBI agent to enter the Possible Club by shooting a perfect score in the FBI shooting competition. Bill retired from the state police in 1987 at Lt. Commander in the criminal investigation division Company A. Bill was a member of Indianhead Lake Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, The Free & Accepted Masons and Shriners. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, camping, and travel. He loved his family dearly.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Martha, three daughters Marsha Glanton, Mary Lynn Read and her fiancé Robert Justice, Julia Mundy and her husband Mark Sr. son-in-law Alan Wilkens, 5 grandchildren Bryan Lavigne and his wife Alyson, Ryan Mundy and his wife Erica, , Trevor Glanton, Alex Mundy, and MJ Mundy and his fiancé Dakota Sparks, great grandchildren Dillon, Morgan, Ryker, and Easton. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dana Wilkins, two brothers, and a sister.
Visitation will be held at Indianhead Lake Baptist Church, 8601 Indianhead Drive, Sherwood, from 4-6pm Sunday, February 9, 2020. Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 2020 beginning at 10:00am. at the Church with Brother Mike Bowien officiating. Burial will follow in Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery at noon.
