Betty was born on April 8, 1930, in Dallas, Texas and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended North Texas State College, currently the University of North Texas, in Denton, TX and later pursued her professional career as a legal secretary in Little Rock for many years. Betty married Ira D. House, Jr. in the afternoon on September 2, 1951, at the Fourth and State Street Church of Christ in Little Rock. They attended and raised their children at the Sixth & Izard Church of Christ in Little Rock, where they enjoyed lifelong Christian friendships with three specific couples, taking family vacations together and playing Canasta every Friday night. In her retirement years, she moved to Plano, Texas, to be near her children and spent several years in volunteer service at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano.
She is survived by her three children, each of whom will miss her terribly; David House (Rosemarie), College Station, TX, Randy House (Delilah), Allen, TX, and Dorinda House Locey (Randy), McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her loving parents, William David Byrd and Hilda Maurine Coats Byrd, and her husband, Ira D. House, Jr.
A visitation will be held at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, Arkansas 72117 on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with Nick Hamilton officiating.
