Barbara Faye Davis (Fryer) was born on January 25th 1920, to Roy and Vickie Fryer; in Solgohachia, Arkansas. Barbara went on to live a long and very full life. Nineteen days before her 103rd birthday, she went home to be with the Lord on January 6th 2023. Barbara is preceded in death by her Husband and true love, Herschel Samuel Davis. As well as, her second oldest son, Cole, who is survived by his wife DeAnna. Barbara is survived in life by her sons, Steven (Diane), Daniel (Judy), Phillip (Tina), Roger (Donna) and her twelve grandchildren; Rachel, Elizabeth, Josh, Alex, Chris, Nathan, Abbie, Maddie, Paige, Phillip, Chris, and Owen.
Barbara had many accomplishments. She attended college at Central College for Women, and went on to become a teacher. Also, during World War II Barbara did her part to help with the war effort by building fuses for bombs at the Jacksonville Ordinance Arsenal.
August 23rd, 1950 Herschel Samuel and Barbara were married and started their lives together. Together Herschel and Barbara owned over 8,000 acres of land. Mostly in Pulaski county (Davis Ranch) and Faulkner county (Pine Village); which continues to be held and passed down in the family trust. Together, they also owned Davis Rubber Co (the World’s oldest tire recycling company) and several other commercial properties. Barbara was many things in her life; Teacher, Bomb Builder, Cattle Rancher, Tire Recycler, wife and mom.
Within their first six years of marriage, they were blessed with five baby boys. Barbara devoted her life to her new full time job of raising their children. She was active in her faith and church and made sure their children were as well. As long as you lived in her house, you were going to Sunday school and Church; at Park Hill Baptist Church every Sunday. Barbara often said her greatest accomplishment in life was that, “none of her boys ever got in any serious trouble.”
When any of the boys would complain, Barbara was quick to tell them, “Life is not fair.”
A testament to Barbara’s life even after the age of 100 years old she was known for her feisty personality and her quick-witted comebacks. At the age of 102 years old, Barbara had tested positive for COVID-19. She was rushed to the hospital with fever and low blood pressure. Upon admission to the hospital, she bit a nurse that was trying to put an oxygen mask on her and told them she was fine and to leave her alone. The next morning her symptoms were gone and she was ready to go back to the nursing home and get some real food.
Barbara’s memory and impact will live on in her family for generations to come.
