Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday February 14 at Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, with the Rabbi Jack Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at the same location.
Shirley was born in Brooklyn NY to Philip and Lena Hochberg on August 15, 1924. She married Arnold Portnoy, and later Edward Sanders. She previously lived on Long Island and in Tamarac FL, and worked as an administrative assistant for the Suffolk County NY Police Dept., retiring from that position in 1988. She was involved in UJA-Federation in NY and FL as a successful fund raiser, and served two terms as President of the Residents Association at her former independent living home in Virginia.
Shirley is preceded in death by husband Edward Sanders and brother Marvin Hochberg.
Shirley is survived by her son Jay Portnoy and his wife Gine of Murrells Inlet SC; daughter Carol Portnoy of Brooklyn NY; grandchildren Jennifer, Pamela, Matthew, and Laura; and great-grandchildren Victoria, Brooke, Addison, Gino and Jackson.
