We lost our beloved Shirley on April 16th, 2024. She was born Shirley Swiedler to Herbert and Rose on June 6th, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. She spent her formative years with her parents and brother Ernie in an apartment on Ocean Parkway. She was extremely bright and skipped a few grades in school.
Marriage at age 18 to her love, Allie Feldman preempted her college career. Along with many other post WW2 couples she was a pioneer in the NYC to Long Island migration. She raised three children in Baldwin, and was a full time homemaker which was typical of women in the 50's and 60's. She was very active in leadership at the South Baldwin Jewish Center. She loved painting, tennis and later golf became a passion.
As her children entered college, she decided to join the workforce full time. After a tremendous score on the civil service exam, she quickly went from general secretarial work to become the executive secretary for the Nassau County Clerk for many years in Mineola, LI.
Following her retirement, she and Allie became Florida snowbirds, until finally moving to Boca Raton full time in the early 1990's. She developed great friendships at Boca Chase, Boca Greens, and finally Five Star Independent Living Residences where she spent the last twelve years. She lived life to the fullest and loved the company of family and friends. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, canasta, bridge, mah jong, traveling, and parties. She was very involved in Hadassah and was named a "woman of valor". Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and everyone was happier being around her.
She is predeceased by her husband Allie and her daughter Marsha. Survivors include sons Barry (Cecile) and Robert (Sheri); grandchildren Brian (Jennifer), Jennifer (Matt) Sand, David ( Yoona), Jonah (Jenna), Anna Feldman, Ben Sperling, Perri (Don) Wilson; great grandchildren Avery, Lila, Lucas, Stella, Gemma, Elise, Leo, Zoe, and Eli; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to her dedicated caregivers over the last 3 1/2 years, Jasmin, Alisia, and Lynn. Their loving and supportive care kept her going so her family members could have her just a bit longer. She really cared about people and left this world a better place.
