His beloved wife, Bernice, predeceased him in 2016. He is survived by his sons Wayne of West Kirby, England; Elliott of Boonton, NJ; and Glenn of Concord, MA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kasey Ruga, Dylan Ruga, and Evan Ruga, and three great-grandchildren: Kaia, Jackson, and Marlo. His brother Leonard Ruga predeceased him.
Irving had a career in supermarket management and retired as a grocery specialist with the Wakefern Food Corporation. He was loved by his employees and was known for treating all people with respect and fairness. He enjoyed watching sports, was an avid paddleball player, golfer and tennis player, and he was a respected instructor of duplicate bridge. He graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn and received a B.A. from Brooklyn College. He served in the US Army following the end of WWII.
