Bernie was born in 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, the middle son to Hyman and May (Subernuck) Margolis.
He served in WWII as Sargent, Army of the United States, Airplane Maintenance Technician-Sq C 560th AAF Base Unit, service in Edmonton, Canada and San Bernardino, California.
He worked various jobs but retired in 1974 as Vice-president at Frenkel and Company specializing in commercial insurance. At that time he and Pauline left New York for Lauderhill, FL.
At his first Florida residence he served as a member of Insurance Advisory board for over 10 years at Tam O’Shanter, Greens of Inverrary, Lauderhill, FL.
He also volunteered for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) for over 15 years giving wise counsel and, no doubt, many a wise crack to young business people.
While in Lauderhill, he acted as a “Guardian Angel” to Bessie Silberg (z.l. 1994). and Lillian Rosen (z.l. 2005) for over 35 years, and to many other friends & neighbors.
Pauline (Wang) , the love of his life and his wife for 61 years predeceased him in 2006. Shortly thereafter he moved to Abbey Delray in Delray Beach where he remained until 2021.
While in Delray he was involved in many activities including a favorite project; the expansion of Tom Kaiser Veterans Memorial Park in Boynton Beach, FL.
He was also a proud member of the Employee Scholarship Selection committee at Abbey Delray for over 10 years.
In 2022 he moved to the Memory Care unit at the Palace of Weston where great care was taken of him. At this time in particular he was lovingly watched over by his guardian angels, cousins Art & Sandy Phillips of Plantation, FL.
Warm, caring and always ready with a joke or a kind word, he was guaranteed to bring a smile to all he met.
Beloved brother to Harvey Margolis of Delray Beach; brother-in-law, to Lila Margolis of Delray Beach and Arlene Wang of Boston, Massachusetts; Cousin to Phyllis Schwartz of Tamarac, FL, Howard & Dasa Wang of Boynton Beach, FL, and Stephen & Sherri Wang of Basking Ridge, NJ.
Uncle to Scott Wang (z.l. 2015) & Carol Wang of Jamestown, RI, Beth & Bill Nast of Boston, MA, David & Debbie Wang of Medfield, MA, Mark Wang of Queens, NY, Jeff & Ellen Wang of San Mateo, CA & Felicia & David Whipple of Rockaway, NY.
Also Uncle to Michael & Gail Margolis, of Massaapequa, NY, Barry & Marcia Margolis of Mt. Sinai, NY, Alan & Debbie Margolis of Chester, NY and Martin Margolis ( z.l. 2020). Great Uncle to too many to name….he is forever in our hearts.
At Bernie’s request there will be no funeral. His remains will be interred at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL together again with his beloved Pauline.
