I owe my career as an educator to Barbara.  I was working at Broward General as the Hematology Supervisor in the lab when I first met her.  Barb was at Sheridan Technical Center in the Health Science/PN Department teaching.  At that time, I had Sheridan's medical lab students in my lab as part of their clinical externship training .  The Sheridan instructors would check up on them weekly so I got to know them.  When one of them decided to retire, I applied to Sheridan for the open teaching position.  Barbara is the one who hired me,  as she was the incoming department head over all the health programs, and convinced me that I would be a great teacher.   We spent the next 25 years following each other around, almost like a tag team.  When Barb retired as Department Head from Atlantic Technical College in 2013, I took her place.  She left behind a great legacy which I am always trying to honor.  As I sit in the same office, at the same desk where she once sat, I can't help but be a little overwhelmed and certainly I am saddened by her passing.  I know Barb will always be remembered fondly here at ATC and throughout the school district.  She touched so many of our lives in such positive and loving ways. I first met Barbara at Sheridan Vocational and Tech Center back in 1991. I used to share a desk/cubicle with her. I taught the evening part time Practical Nursing  program and Barbara taught during the day. She always shared with me her personal space/desk in the back office,  and many tips for the students to be successful. Over the years we were able to collaborate on many different projects and occasionally go out to lunch. One of the more recent projects was the development of the Orthopedic Technician program which she successfully navigated through the Florida Board of Education. Barbara will always be remembered fondly in my heart for her generous nature, great sense of humor, a fabulous work ethic and just a gem of a person.  I miss her and all that she brought to nursing and education and of course her friendship.
