Vartouhi Hammoudian

Vartouhi Messerlian Hammoudian was born on May 13, sometime between 1922 and 1924, in Damascus, Syria; the oldest of three sisters. Her family relocated to Beirut, Lebanon soon after where she lived until she was married to Khatcher Hammoudian in 1952. The couple then moved to Anjar, Lebanon where they welcomed daughter, Berjouhi (Betty) Frankian, followed by son Vreij Hammoudian and daughters Sona Hammoudian and Seta Ouroumian. To help support her family, she worked as a seamstress which was a lifelong passion for her.

She came to live with her daughter Berjouhi and family in Houston, TX in 1988, to help take care of her three grandchildren Ani, Sevag and Vicken.

She then moved to California in 2002 to be with her son, in Van Nuys, and daughters, Sona and Seta, who had relocated to California from overseas.

She peacefully passed on Tuesday, October 31 in the early afternoon. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and husband. She is survived by her daughter Berjouhi Frankian and family: husband Vrouir Frankian, daughter Ani Frankian Vernor, son-in-law Curtis Vernor, sons Sevag and Vicken Frankian; son Vreij Hammoudian and family: wife Nancy Hammoudian, daughters Sirelle and Rakelle Hammoudian; daughter Sona Hammoudian and family: daughter Silvy Takessian Atamian, son-in-law Sebouh Atamian, and daughters Christine and Mary Takessian; daughter Seta Ouroumian and family: husband Harout Ouroumian, daughter Maral Ouroumian Ainejian, son-in-law Harout Ainejian, sons Krikor and Mher Ouroumian.

She met eight of her great-grandchildren, spanning ages from 9 years to 6months: Alyza Ouroumian (9), Soseh Vernor (5), Nyrie Vernor (4), Krikor Atamian (3), Elize Vernor (2), Avo Vernor (2), Alina Atamian (2), Nareg Ainejian (6mo).

She will be greatly missed.
