Alpin was born on January 10, 1933 to Karekin and Hayguhi Kalustyan in Istanbul, Turkey. He attended Middle East College in Beirut, Lebanon prior to immigrating to the United States in 1953. He then attended College of Marin studying chemistry and graduating in 1955 prior to moving to Los Angeles and marrying his first wife, Frances Lopez. They had two daughters, Valerie and Leyla. He eventually married the love of his life Eleanor Cornell and she has been by his side for over 50 years.
His background in Chemistry gave him the opportunity to work in the fields of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics prior to starting his own business in 1970 manufacturing peroxide, and for the next 47 years he and Eleanor grew the business into a successful cosmetic manufacturing enterprise. In addition to his passion for the business, he loved sailing, living at the ocean in Long Beach, road trips in their RV, and doting on their beloved dog, Gigi. Alpin is best known for his kind and giving heart with a desire to help others in need without seeking praise or credit.
Alpin was preceded in death by his parents Karekin and Hayguhi Kalustyan, his brother Eddie Kaler and two half-brothers; Paul Cornell and Arman Cornell. Alpin is survived by his wife, Eleanor Kaler; his daughters Valerie Kaler, Leyla Kaler and her partner Irene Miranda, as well as Irene’s granddaughter Mercedez Miranda; his two step-children, Pamela Onstead and her husband Randall, Arman Cornell and his wife Geralyn along with grandchildren Eric Cornell and his wife Vanessa, Cameron Cornell and his wife Kayleigh and Vanessa Hegl, as well as great grandchildren Xander, Meadow, Scarlet, Ophelia and Elwood.
We are so grateful for the care givers, Rosa, Elizabeth, Jesica, Alicia, Josie and Becky who lovingly cared for Alpin over the last years of his life. They cared for him with love and dedication as they would their own father and our family is so thankful for each one.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 19 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and services at 1:30 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Valhalla located at 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood, California.
