Col. Ronald Campbell, MD., 84. Entered heaven's gates on May 27th 2017. Dr. Campbell was born in Lake Wales, FL in 1933. At age 6 he told his Mother that he wanted to become a doctor and his goal never changed. Later at age 12 he attended a Christian Summer Camp for boys. It was then that he knew God's calling for him was to one day become a medical missionary. Ron graduated from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine in 1960 and completed his OB/GYN residency at U.S. Army Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was stationed at Fort Jackson Army Hospital in Columbus, S.C. as Chief of OB/GYN Service & Assist. Chief of Dept. of Surgery where he was also in charge of the Special Forces medical training at the hospital. He was made an honorary member of the Special Forces by the group. After serving 14 years of active duty in the Army he was honorably discharged. He then joined a private practice in his hometown of Lake Wales, FL. where, he also rejoined the Army serving another 14 years as a Battalion Surgeon in the Florida National Guard and became a Full Bird Colonel. He left private practice after 20 years and then moved to Dade City, FL. Dade City. He worked 5 more years for the community health clinic Health Resources Alliance as medical director of the women's division. He loved working with the five midwives and they made him an Honorary Midwife because they love working with him so much too. In 1992 Dr. Campbell was given the opportunity to serve at a Christian Hospital in Sahiwal, Pakistan for 6 months. His experience satisfied his desire knowing he had finally fulfilled his calling to his Lord Jesus Christ in becoming a medical missionary, something that he had always wanted to do from the time he was a little boy. He later retired in 1998, traveling with his wife to many countries and in the U.S. He loved singing in Church Choirs, relief-woodcarving and playing golf as much as he could. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Carol Deane, 5 Children, 1 Loving Step-Daughter & 2 Grandchildren, preceded in death by 1 Step-Daughter. His Celebration of life will be held on June 9th at National Cremation Society, 3453 Hancock Bridge Pkwy, NFM, FL 33903 with a visitation from 1:00 PM – 2:30 at which time a service will begin.
