John was born in Michigan in 1946, but grew up in Wooster, Ohio. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1964 and then attended Kent State University where he and Jaycine met. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
John was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and at Mt. Cross Lutheran Church in Camarillo, CA. He was on the call committee and in the choir at both churches and was always “at the ready” to help whenever there was a need. At Mt. Cross he was a Stephen Ministry leader.
John retired from the US Army after 22 years of proud service as LT Colonel. He served in Korea, Germany, England and several posts in the US. After retirement he worked in various areas of Real Estate including writing mortgages, selling homes, and rehabbing “worn out” homes. He enjoyed traveling to places around the world including Northern Ireland, Thailand, China, France, Croatia, Italy and Sicily, following his daughter’s international moves and the special vacation trips with his son’s family. He enjoyed creating stained glass pieces, fishing with his grandsons and icing cookies with the grandchildren. His favorite foods were lasagna and cherry cheesecake, made by Jaycine.
He was married to Jaycine for 50 years. They had a son John III (wife Siobhan) and a daughter Julia J. Peacock (husband Jon). He was a very happy Grandpa to Caoimhe, Aoibheann, Connor and Arran.
John touched many lives in Camarillo and SW FL with his service, leadership, generosity and kindness. He will always be remembered for being there to help with anything you needed, having the right tool for every job and never being late for anything.
He died on June 18, 2018 in Cape Coral, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Jeanne Lester and his brother James. He is survived by his wife, sister Barbara, and brother Thomas.
