Jim went to be with The Lord on the evening of 09/09/11 at Hospice House in Cape Coral, after courageously battling a multitude of medical problems for the last year. He was born in Florida, Ohio on May 09, 1928 to Bernard and Anna Hughey. He enjoyed retirement for the last 20 years, after working many years as Vice President for Burnup & Sims who contracted for United Telephone of Florida (Century/Link). Jim’s passion for fishing knew no bounds. He was also an avid hunter, golfer and bowler.
Jim leaves behind his wife and life partner of 61 years, Shirley Ann Hughey of North Fort Myers, along with his daughter, Linda Johnson (Billy) of North Fort Myers, his son, Jeff Hughey (Mary Ann) of North Fort Myers, his brother, Kim Hughey (Ellen) of Taylor, Michigan, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Anna Hughey, along with his sister, Marion, three brothers, Charles, Bill and Jack, and his nephew, Jackie Hughey.
A mass will be conducted at St. Francis Xavier Church in downtown Fort Myers on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. We will share stories about Jim’s life at a reception immediately following the service which will be announced at the church.
