Joyce “Carrol” Majewski, 94, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2020.
Carrol was born in Detroit, MI on October 17, 1925 to Florence (Proulx) and Carl Sylvester and later raised by her mother and stepfather Pete Parker. In August 25, 1951, Carrol married Eugene “Gene” Majewski, her “doll”, the love of her life, and they shared a loving, devoted, supportive, and caring marriage of 69 years. Together they lived in many places across the country, initially in North Carolina and San Diego, CA while Gene was in the service: first Navy, then Marines. They returned to Warren, MI where they originally met and married, and started their family and lived for 12 years, growing especially close with their friends in the dance club they formed with neighbors who became lifelong friends. They briefly lived in Akron, OH before settling again in New England, living in Cumberland, RI for 18 years. Carrol worked as a receptionist at Management Recruiters, Gene’s employment agency, while still raising their 3 children. They then moved to Cape Cod and started a tennis and health club family business in 1977, where the entire family contributed in one way or another. The club is still a Majewski family business, with the next generation growing up in the business, and Cape Cod is where most of the family’s roots are, with their 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren all based in the area.
Gene and Carrol loved to travel, having been all over the world, from Alaska to the Amazon, across Europe and Asia. More recently, they have enjoyed a series of family Thanksgiving cruises, which have been highlights for Carrol to enjoy visiting with all her kids and grandkids, and great-grandkids.
After being snowbirds for several years, Gene and Carrol made their home at Seven Lakes in Fort Myers, FL. Though her last several months were at The Windsor in Cape Coral under the compassionate care of the loving family there, she lived a full life with her spouse at the Seven Lakes Community in Fort Myers for over 35 years and always enjoyed the active social life and friendships formed there.
She is survived by her husband, 3 children: Michael Majewski and Bob Majewski of South Yarmouth, MA and Suzanne Majewski (Bob) Lynch, now in Cape Coral, FL. She treasures and is also very proud of her 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Emily) Majewski, Meryn Majewski (Patrick) Flynn, Monica Majewski and Jessica Majewski (Curtis) Fratus, Jennifer Majewski, Nicholas Majewski and Samuel Majewski and 2 great-grandchildren: Hunter and Richard. Most of the family is in Cape Cod, MA.
She is pre-deceased by her parents and her siblings, Rosalie Sylvester, Skip Parker and Jimmy Parker.
Family was paramount to Carrol. She is regularly described by others as a woman of notable class and grace, with a gentle warmth in the way she greets others wherein she was so present and authentic. She so positively impacted her children & grandchildren with her kind-hearted demeanor. She was insistent in setting the bar high and influential in the ethical development of her grandchildren, having played an instrumental role as the quintessential example of how to give love. Carrol's offspring still, and will always, embrace her guiding light.
A Catholic mass will be planned at Church of the Resurrection as soon as conditions permit, with reception to follow. Other memorial services will likely be scheduled in the Summer in Cape Cod, Fall in Fort Myers, and prior to interment at Arlington National Cemetery. This site will be updated as arrangements are finalized.
